Dr. Robert Sterling was born and educated in Joliet, Illinois. Beginning in 1967, he taught history for 33 years at Joliet Junior College along with serving as department chair. He has authored several history books on regional history, including Joliet: A Pictorial History and Joliet Transportation & Industry. He has received degrees in history from Wheaton College (B.A.) and from Northern Illinois University (M.A.; Ph.D.).
